Among Us has a long history of making its way to fame. The Associated Press named it the most downloaded app in the iOS store in October. It’s a very simple and straightforward game, but very elaborately implemented. It also became a useful app as people were looking for social interaction.
From celebrities such as streamers, stakeholders, and even people who don’t consider themselves gamers, the game hits the sweet spot between easy playability, massive replayability, and cross-platform compatibility.
You play a controllable jelly bean, complete some tasks and find enemy aliens in a spaceship full of jelly beans controlled by other players. Everyone loves and enjoys this game. That game is “Among Us”.

What is Among Us?
Among Us is set in space and the main gameplay revolves around completing tasks as part of a crew or eliminating crew members as part of an imposter. There are three cards to choose from.
You can also play with up to 10 players per game and choose up to three imposters. If you don’t like the standard jelly bean astronauts, you can choose from a variety of cosmetic items to add a personal touch to your crew.
To truly appreciate Among Us, we must first look at the genre of the game and the people behind it, but before that, look at the genre: social reasoning. The objective revolves around the concept of “understanding” and the main features of the game are logic and deductive reasoning.

The Rise to Fame
It was released for mobile devices on June 15, 2018 by developer Innersloth and a three-person team consisting of Marcus “PuffballsUnited” Bromander, Amy “aemuuu” Liu, and Forest “forte_bass” Willard. The trio has also participated in other InnerSloth projects such as The Henry Stickman Collection and Dig2China.
In January 2020, Innersloth published a blog with the comment “Among Us was on a roll…” marking a presumably end-of-life update. This lowered the price of maps and reduced the frequency of bug fixes, “…allowing Among Us to take its natural course.”
In July 2020, the game experienced its first wave of popularity. Popular Twitch streamer Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris started playing the game. Additionally, there were outlier influences among online personalities such as PewDiePie, Pokimane, Shroud, and Ninja.
In August 2020, the game reached 100,000 players and viewers. In September 2020, the game was downloaded 4.2 million times, more than double the number in August.
Following the massive success the game achieved on streaming websites such as Twitch, Innersloth intended to develop a sequel to the original game, titled Among Us 2, which would be a significant improvement over its predecessor.
The End of Among Us
On September 24, 2020, Innersloth released a statement saying, “We have decided to discontinue Among Us 2 and instead focus on improving Among Us 1. This means that the developers will have to fundamentally change the programming of the game.” They also had to spend a lot of time maintaining and setting up servers and fixing critical bugs.
The most important thing about this game, more important than its appeal, is that it provided a way to relax. And this was at a time when the coronavirus brought the whole world under control. It gave me a much-needed respite from the stress of online classes and the lack of social interaction.
