Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League FAQ – DC Games

Since spring 2024, new story content has been gradually added to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League through the introduction of new playable characters. These villainous additions come from other dimensions where a group of brainiac civilization-collecting operatives have taken over an alternate Earth. In Season 1, a younger version of the Joker was added to the squad, and in the recently released Season 2, a female version of Mr. Freeze named Mrs. Freeze reluctantly joined the squad.

While these additions highlight alternate dimensions in DC Comics’ vast multiverse, they don’t actually advance Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s storyline or add depth to the characters. This may be rectified in future seasons with the introduction of Zoe Lawton, Deadshot’s daughter, and Deathstroke.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s Story So far

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is developed by Rocksteady Studios and takes place in the same universe as the highly acclaimed Batman: Arkham game. Five years after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight, Amanda Waller, Director of Support for Advanced Research Group United, is forced to form Task Force X, also known as the Suicide Squad, after the Justice League is compromised by Brainiac and his invading army in Metropolis. As the game progresses, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang, with the technical support of several Lex Luthor and other villains, kill off the members of the Justice League one by one.

Eventually, the team discovers that this Brainiac has not only infiltrated Arkham Earth, but is teaming up with 12 other Brainiacs to take over the multiverse. At the end of the Suicide Squad base game, the team is able to defeat Arkham Brainiac, but now they must travel to other Earths to kill Brainiac and stop his reign over the multiverse. Over the course of the two seasons and four episodes in addition to the base game, four Brainiacs have been removed from the Brainiac Kill List. Joker joined the squad after his squad was wiped out by Brainiac, while Madame Freeze froze the Earth after it was determined that the battle against Brainiac was unwinnable.

Seasons 3 and 4 of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League are expected to feature Zoe Lawton and Deathstroke as playable squad members, and Rocksteady should use these expansions to delve deeper into the game’s storyline. Perhaps these new team members could also come from another Earth, like the Joker and Freeze before them, but either could bring thematic complications to the rest of the team. In the case of Deathstroke, Rocksteady could portray him as the one who actually defeated the Dark Knight in Batman: Arkham Origins and subsequently eliminated the rest of the Justice League. This could have made his Earth even more vulnerable to Brainiac’s invasion, leading him to regret his actions even more.

In the case of Zoe Lawton, she may have come from an Earth where her father died instead of the other Deadshot. In the A.R.G.U.S. tapes, Floyd Lawton revealed that he killed the other Deadshot but also nearly took a millisecond to strike himself. This Zoe Lawton may have followed in her father’s footsteps to become the new Deadshot, later killing both the other Deadshot and John Stewart/Green Lantern. If this turns out to be true, Rocksteady may make it difficult for the Lawton family to speak to each other, as Zoe may perceive Arkham’s Deadshot as a ghost and Floyd may perceive Zoe as his worst nightmare, as he never wanted his family to end up embroiled in a life of crime.

Little has been said so far about how exactly Brainiacus was able to conquer the other Earths, but Rocksteady may embellish these stories with more optional dialogue and collectibles. Brainiac isn’t a pushover, but some books and even other games like Injustice 2 have shown how effectively the Justice League or Superman alone could defeat the Coluans. Embellishing these alternate Earths with more background information on how they differ or how they were conquered could help keep players more interested each time they complete a new season of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
