Until Dawn has released a new teaser showing what fans can expect from the game’s upcoming PC and PS5 remake. Until Dawn revisits the scenario of the 2015 PS4 horror classic with improved textures, lighting, and engine upgrades.
Until Dawn was originally developed for the PS3 but was eventually released for the PS4 to critical acclaim. The title aims to recreate the experience of slasher movies in video game form, and it featured a number of well-known actors to portray the movements and voices of the playable cast. Players and critics especially appreciated the way the story unfolds, as decisions made in the game can have a significant impact on the character’s subsequent survival.
Now, the Until Dawn remake has finally been fully revealed, and is set to release in Fall 2024 for both PlayStation 5 and PC. An exact release date has yet to be announced. A short trailer for the title was revealed during PlayStation State of Play in May, showcasing some of the visual improvements that come with moving the title to Unreal Engine 5. Models and textures are visibly improved, but perhaps the biggest highlight is the title’s lighting. Horror elements are typified by dark shadows and contrasts that will keep new players guessing as to what lurks around every corner.
What’s New in the Until Dawn Remake
In addition to the visual revamp, the remake previously revealed that the title would also include a lot of new content. The story has been expanded, new locations and collectibles to discover, and some animations have been revised. However, there are some changes that may worry fans of the original.
This remake is maintained by a different developer than the original. Supermassive Games produced the original title, and Ballistic Moon is overseeing the remake. The game will also feature new film music that is not by the original composer. Jason Graves wrote the game’s original soundtrack, and his work was later used in other Supermassive Games titles such as The Dark Pictures Anthology. However, the soundtrack for this remake will be composed by Mark Coven, who has worked on acclaimed horror films such as The Witch.
There’s still a lot that’s yet to be revealed about the Until Dawn remake, but fans are excited for the chance to relive the horror experience with some new twists. With any luck, it’ll be released early enough in the fall that players can enjoy it as part of a spooky Halloween experience later this year.
