Starfield - Story & All Endings Explained

There’s a secret ending, of course. If Colt kills Juliana instead of himself and just sits in the chair and waits for the day to end, the whole loop resets. The cat-and-mouse game will continue forever, and likely for decades to come.

Regardless of how Colt ends up, or dies, the whole story probably hasn’t been written yet. Will a Deathloop sequel feature one of the two possible storylines? Or will you take a completely different path? Or maybe there will be no sequel and you will have to play the entire game over and over again.

Starfield’s Biggest Secret, Revealed

Starfield' Review: Get Lost in Space | WIRED

On the surface, Starfield is a very simple game. You play as an asteroid miner, encountering mysterious artifacts and taking part in a vision quest. After this experience, you join an organization called Constellation, whose mission is to discover more of these artifacts and uncover their secrets.

Ultimately, these artifacts form something called “The Unity”, the center of several universes, which, when completed, allows the explorer to travel through parallel universes as a Starborn.

Thanks to this mission from the Constellation, the player becomes a Starborn, but with a few twists.

What Happened to Earth in Starfield?

If the mystery of Unity is revealed, it will help explain the entire origin of the Starfield universe. Early in the game, the player learns that Earth is a desolate wasteland that is no longer inhabitable. While this could be explained by a natural disaster, it turns out that the fate of the Earth was caused by the Unity.

Long ago, there was a scientist named Dr. Victor Aiza who, thanks to a piece of The Unity artifact, developed the technology of the Gravity Drive, a tool that made space travel possible in the Starfield. Like the player, touching the artifact gave Aiza a vision, which inspired him to create the Gravity Drive.

However, the repeated use of the Gravity Drive had a negative effect on Earth. The Earth was destroyed by the repeated use of the Gravity Drive, forcing humanity to leave Earth and settle on a faraway planet.

As IGN commentator WildAttorney noted, an audio note found next to Aiza’s body reveals that he was not only informed about the Gravity Drive, but also that it would eventually destroy the Earth’s atmosphere in the process. However, Isa decided that humanity would face war and famine if they stayed on Earth, and decided it would be better for them to leave.

Who Is the Emissary?

Review: Starfield is the ultimate Bethesda game | VGC

The identity of the Emissary changes depending on the decisions you make as a player in the High Price Missions. During the game, Hunters will attack the hut, so you can either stay there and defend the Constellation HQ, or head to the Eye to help fight back and possibly save whoever is currently there. No matter where you choose, Sam, Sara, Barrett or Andreja will end up dying.

But that Emissary turns out to be a deceased Constellation member. However, it’s not the Sam/Sara/Barrett/Andreja you know, but a Starborn version from another universe.

Starfield’s Biggest Choice

Starfield: Everything you need to know before venturing into space

The Hunters and the Emissaries represent different versions of what will happen to those who pass through The Unity. Obsessed with their power, the Hunters kill those who get in their way and collect more versions of The Unity. The Emissaries, on the other hand, want more people to pass through The Unity, but would rather choose those who can interact with her and become Starborn, representing a strict use of her power. Players can philosophically side with the Starborn.

Also, if they feel that neither the Hunters nor the Emissaries can be trusted, they can choose to side with either of them and reject their help, acting alone to discover the secrets of the universe that they should discover for themselves.

Players can finally choose to become Starborn and go on to a New Game Plus. New Game Plus takes on a whole new meaning after completing the main story path, thanks to The Unity’s multiverse capabilities. It’s worth reading more about Starfield New Game Plus here to find out why starting over in Starfield is a lot more complicated than you might think.

However, if parallel worlds sound a bit too scary, or you can’t bear to leave all your friends and faction buddies behind, just turn around, get back on your ship, and roam the galaxy.
